This Communities in Canada, Past and Present: Part 2 – Settler Communities & the Environment resource is intended to engage students with activities, texts and full lesson plans that support the 2018 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum for Grade 6.

Students are supported as they explore how the features of a community are important to that community’s growth and identity, and to determine “cause and consequence” relationships between environment and identity. The inquiry skill focused upon in this mini-unit is on primary and secondary sources, and students are asked to think about when each type of evidence is most useful in gathering information.
